Having zoom optics allows the user flexibility in being able to select any magnification power that is within the zoom range. Zoom ranges can be increased by inserting higher power eyepieces or by using reduction lens on the bottom of the microscope head.
A stereoscopic microscope has two independent optical paths to the specimen. This gives the user a 3D stereoscopic effect that allows depth preception. The binocular microscopes are standard and the trinocular microscopes have the added feature of a photography and video port for attaching a camera. The boom stands are normally used for repair and inspection of circut boards, engraving, and soldering. Boom stands for stereoscopic microscopes can be either basic units, heavy duty units with counterweights, articulating arm boom stands, and even floor mounted boom stands. The application must be carefully reviewed so the best type of stand can be selected for the stereoscopic head. A person’s budget must also be reviewed, as the boom mounted microscope systems are more expensive than a simple stand.
